I found this interesting article about icosahedral symmetry, it was published this year and basically describes the geometry of the capsides from a numeric model prospective. This eventually will help to a better understanding of the virus assembly, structural transitions and future applications. Approximationofvirusstructurebyicosahedral.pdf (834.19 KB)

nice paper but with lot of complicated mathematical models but i liked the fact that they acknowledge about the use of studying coat protein of viruses as for construction of protein cages without viral genetic material which is also referred as viral like particles for gene therapy ( gene vectors). cool idea.

Very nice paper, thank you for posting it. You both bring up an important topic. Virus structure is a hugely important topic currently for construction of protein cages and for gene therapy. I plan to put a lecture or 2 at the end of the semester on this topic. Nice work!!

thanks so much for sharing the paper... i was trying to follow it.... my knowledge of viral particles is limited, but at the end of the class I will understand better the models for virus in plants and vectors, really cool.
